Redefining Neighborhood Park Spaces

The Town of Windsor approached us looking for a neighborhood park unlike any other – rethinking how play and gathering occurs in a neighborhood. Working with their staff and the community we came up with a vision for a park design that stretched their budget to offer new and exciting ways to play in their neighborhood. The design for Village East Park combines imaginative play options, nature play, landforms, alternative play spaces, and lighting to help the Town redefine neighborhood space.

innovating affordable park features

A strong desire for a ninja challenge course developed into a dedicated play area with a circuit of challenge course equipment. The main play areas are filled with a net climber, play structure, slides, a boulder scramble, log stump hoppers, and more. One of the major wishes of the community was for outdoor play spaces in a public park design. At this park you’ll find kids in nature thanks to the thoughtfully composed nature playground. The structured play areas have synthetic turf surfacing which blends well with the site’s surrounding turfgrass and native seed areas.

An extension of neighboring homes

A grassy field outstretches from neighboring homes and small waysides serve as a school bus stop and entry points for a regional bike and pedestrian trail. An overlook offers a vantage point reaching above rooftops to open up a cherished mountain view.

A recipe for success

This project exemplifies what is possible when the right team comes together to create a meaningful community park design.
