Butterfield Crossing Park and Possibilities Playground

An inclusive, multi-generational destination park designed with and for the Castle Rock community.

Castle Rock, Colorado

Thoughtful Design. Lasting Impact.

Butterfield Crossing Park is a reimagined, award-winning destination in Castle Rock, Colorado that sets a new standard for inclusive, multi-generational park design. Revitalized with deep community input, it now serves as a regional model for how landscape architecture can foster play, equity, and wellness. As leaders in public space design, Design Concepts brought our full expertise to this flagship park, creating a space where every person can feel welcome, engaged, and inspired.

Possibilities Playground: A Place Where Every Child Belongs

At the center of the park is Possibilities Playground, a fully inclusive, sensory-rich play environment designed for children of all abilities. From wheelchair-accessible surfacing and ramps to immersive sensory rooms and imaginative play elements, this playground invites children to explore, connect, and thrive, side by side. It’s a space that reflects the power of thoughtful design to create joy for everyone.

Designed for Wellness, Movement, and Community Connection

Courts for All Ages

The upgraded park includes lighted pickleball and tennis courts that support both casual play and competitive use. A new full-sized basketball court adds another layer of active recreation, drawing teens, families, and adults together through sport.

Fitness and Trails

A modern outdoor fitness circuit provides an open-air workout zone designed for people of all ages and abilities. A connected trail system winds through the park, supporting walking, jogging, and moments of quiet connection with nature.

Spaces to Gather

Flexible lawns and shaded seating areas offer space for picnics, performances, and unstructured play. These spaces are intentionally open-ended—designed to welcome community events, quiet afternoons, and everything in between.

Rooted in Equity and Sustainability

Inclusivity

Accessibility was prioritized at every scale, from surfacing and signage to play features and pathways. The design promotes dignity and autonomy for people with diverse needs and abilities.

Sustainability

The park dramatically reduces water use through the conversion of acres of high-maintenance bluegrass to low-water native grasses. Plantings are adapted for resilience, longevity, and ecological benefit.

Community Well-being

Each element of the park supports social connection, physical activity, and intergenerational engagement, core to our belief that great public spaces make people healthier and happier.

Built for Generations to Come

Butterfield Crossing Park is more than an outdoor amenity, it’s a shared community asset designed for the long term. Its inclusive features, sustainable systems, and vibrant gathering spaces will continue to bring people together for years to come.
