This summer we celebrated the grand opening of the third and final phase of Erie Community Park. 12 acres of features were added to this park extending its value to the community. The park is consistently filled with people enjoying all it has to offer, and we could be more excited to see that enthusiasm.

Outdoor Classrooms: Now More Than Ever

This past year, schools all over the country were forced to allow fewer students inside and keep classes physically separate from each other, making their outside spaces a hot commodity. In many cases schools had to scramble to figure out ways to make this happen with little time to plan. We propose that to better equip schools for the future, more time, funding, and attention is needed to design these outdoor learning environments in ways students, teachers and the neighboring community can enjoy throughout the year.

As play becomes more of a topic of interest in Colorado, the News decided to talk to people who are intimately involved in the next generation of play design. We have been working, studying and applying our extensive history of creating play places to making multi-generational recreation areas in our state and others. It was our pleasure to share this knowledge through the 9News people, principal Axel Bishop did the interview.

What Are You Doing Outside?

It’s summer and time to get outside. Following up on our recent blog regarding the Denver Post’s article on playgrounds (see the Friday, June 12 post of this blog below), I decided to look for other online postings related to parks that we have worked on. It is fascinating to find out what people are doing in our parks – especially the ways they find to make them part of their own lives. For example, Westlands Park has become a venue for a variety of Meetups where people can make new friends, get fit, and have fun together.

One young athlete is on his way to becoming an action video star by filming his skateboard skills at some of the skate parks we’ve designed and posting them on YouTube.
