The Honor Farm Park & Open Space Master Plan was completed on behalf of the City of Pueblo Parks and Recreation Department and Department of Planning. The goal is to create a long term plan for uses, features, and amenities, open spaces and management for this 2,373-acre park and open space area. The site, purchased from the State of Colorado in 2001, is roughly bounded by U.S. Highway 50 West on the north, Pueblo Blvd. (SH45) on the east, Purcell Blvd. on the west, and Lake Pueblo State Park on the south. The property contains two areas that are leased by the City of Pueblo: Pueblo Motorsports Park, a 710-acre area on the northeast corner of the property; and the Sky Corral Model Airplane Club, a 60-acres at the north edge of the property. State Parks staff has been involved in this process, as this parcel is adjacent to State Parks land.
Working under the conditions of a Conservation Easement Agreement granted to the State of Colorado, the master plan sets the framework for the responsible management and uses of the land. The plan determines and balances appropriate uses of the property and provide for the protection and preservation of open space. Residents of the area and interested parties were welcome and encouraged to participate in this study.
