Description: When Urban Drainage and Flood Control District (UDFCD) decided to develop a Master Plan for the Upper Goldsmith Gulch area, which includes the drainage through Tommy Davis Park), the City of Greenwood Village was prompted to create a Master Plan for the existing 12.6 acre park.

The UDFCD plan created the need for the Village to take a closer look at the current use of the park and to address current and future needs of both the recreational and maintenance aspects of the park.

Design Concepts met with City staff to identify maintenance needs, and facilitated two public meetings to collect information and opinions on the future of Tommy Davis Park. Through this process, a final Master Plan was approved and taken to City Council, along with estimates of construction and maintenance costs, and how the park may be phased into construction.

The design of the Master Plan is focused on the drainage through the park. A new pond was created, and the existing pond was enlarged to reduce the amount of turf in difficult to maintain areas with poor soils. The current channel was realigned and segmented by a series of check dams to keep the water level constant. A recalculating pump will keep water flowing between the ponds, eliminating the stagnant water which is a current problem. Both the ponds and the channel will have a colored and patterned concrete edge to provide access and keep the turf away from the water edge (reducing run-off and maintenance). Circulation patterns were improved by realigning and adding new asphalt paths, with the potential for a future trail underpass underneath Orchard Road. Access to the water is provided by footbridges and an accessible fishing dock. Additional benches and landscape beds were added, and new fitness stations will replace the existing stations.
