Description:
|
Construction of Phase II of this regional park for Douglas County was completed in 2005. The design focuses on water reduction along with use of alternative turf types and native plantings. Amenities include ballfields, multi-use fields, miscellaneous park structures, playgrounds, dog park, picnic facilities, sports courts and an equestrian trail. One of the softball fields and the large multi-use field have synthetic turf. A contemporary ranch theme has been carried throughout the park in structures and decorative elements. Images of native plants and wildlife are etched in the central walk of the park, and those of domestic animals occur around the interior "farmstead". Structures include a homestead-like concession building, shelters which resemble farmstead outbuildings, and a maintenance facility that resembles a hay barn. Decorative metal cutouts make the backstop unique. Etchings of animals and native plants also adorn the playground, which is entered through a corral fence. Drawing on Colorado's history and native character for inspiration, these elements make the park a fun and memorable place to be.
Full project build-out is expected within the next couple of years.
